Chuck
was moved by their poverty and the efforts the small staff
was making to feed and house the children. He left what
he had brought and continued to visit and do what he could
for the street children at Dzegvi. As their involvement
grew, Chuck and Edythe enlisted the help of friends in
the states and finally decided to form a non-profit so
they could offer tax deductions for donations. The charity
grew and they extended their assistance to another orphanage
and boarding school in Telavi. They continue to assist
both facilities.
After
the Strommes gave a presentation at Trinity Lutheran church,
Merlyn White was moved to offer her assistance. In October,
2007, she accompanied Edythe to Georgia to visit the orphans
and help review current needs. Merlyn raised money before
her trip to buy soccer uniforms for the Telavi soccer team.
She also brought a suitcase full of knit scarves she and
her friends had made. The children were thrilled and Merlyn
was hooked. She returned home with an enthusiasm and desire
to do more. She persuaded her church to dedicate all of
their Sunday school donations to CCRFund. The $1,000.00
check is a result of her efforts.
The
Strommes have lived on Holly Avenue in Cottage Grove since
1999. For the last two years their neighborhood association,
the Hidden Valley Homeowners Association, has sponsored
a neighborhood rummage sale with all proceeds going CCRFund.
The first year, they raised over $1,700 and last year they
exceed that by almost $800.00. They hope to do even better
when they have their third annual sale August 16th. The
sale is held in the parking lot of Cottage Grove Vacuum
and Sewing thanks to the kindness of Lindsey Haskell who
owns the business. The shop is at 753 River Road, Cottage
Grove.
