Rummage Sale
Dear
Friends of CCRFund,
Thank
you so much for your support and assistance in putting
on our third annual rummage sale to raise money for our
charity, the Caucasus Children’s
Relief Fund. “Our” kids
are going to need assistance more than ever when peace
returns to Georgia.
Despite
100+ degree weather on Saturday, folks showed up for set-up
and stayed to help with the early rush. We had hot dogs
cooking by 10 o’clock and everyone
enjoyed the dogs (which could have been cooked on the sidewalks
by noon) and the cold drinks. When we started breaking down
for the day at 3pm, the glassware and pots, etc. were too
hot to handle. One of the helpers picked up a candle which
promptly melted before her eyes. We donated the left over
clothes to Good Will and the remaining items to the Elks
for their next rummage sale.
Despite the heat, we raised $2,313.40.
This included money for the rummage sales, donations and
hot dog proceeds. All of the hot dogs, buns and condiments
were donated by our friend Ken Ellison. He was assisted
at the grill by Frank Lulich and Luke Warren who is a very
good hot dog salesman. Raedelle Heckman donated bags of yummy
cookies to be sold. Our family donated the sodas, waters
and chips. All proceeds from food sales were donated to
the charity with no overhead expense.
Our
friend Ransom Southerland donated a "water mister" which
we all enjoyed thoroughly. His wife Tami donated two charming
bird houses for the sale. Michael LaBoard handled signs
and balloons and his adorable Ellie cashiered all day.
I’m sure
her charming smile added to all the customers’ enjoyment
of the experience.
Special
thanks to Penny and Ken Keating for their donations and
for helping us get a storage unit at Green Gables. When
the owner there, Dave Thacker, found out what we needed
it for, he let us use the unit at no charge. Lindsey Haskell
at the Sewing Machine shop kindly donated his lot once
again this year and also his water for the mister we enjoyed
so much. Ron Fenrich not only donated items for the sale,
but made trips up and down the hill to help get things
back to the house at the end of the day when everyone was
running out of steam. Ron’s
wife, Connie, and Merlyn White made the lovely quilt
which was sold at the silent auction. Dave Tooker and Horst
Hittenberger showed up early with items for the sale and
their wives Joan and Estella helped us set up and do last
minute pricing. Jim Papez dropped off items for the sale.
Friends
who helped with pricing and assistance at the sale include
Raedelle Heckman, Joyce Cameron, Vera McCollum, LaVae Robertson,
Jenny Carmichael, Phyllis Kaylor, Peg Bryant, Carol Reed
and our kids Jim and Dawne Siekman from Redmond and Luke
and Lisa Warren from Portland who also brought our 16 month
old granddaughter, Lucy. (Definitely NOT for sale!) I hope
some of you got to meet them. Mike Heckman and Steve Carmichael
lent their muscle to transporting all the goods from the
storage unit to the sale site.
I’m
sure I have overlooked mentioning someone and I apologize
for that.
We are grateful
for all you did to help. Next year we think June may be
a better month!
We had an added blessing. I just learned yesterday
that the Presbyterian Women are giving us a check for $186.60
to raise our total proceeds to $2,500.00
Thanks to all,
Edythe
